Concern Stretch Marks

What are Stretch Marks?

These fine lines, which may resemble stripes, appear when the skin stretches suddenly and exceeds its elasticity limit – in other words, when the collagen and elastin fibers that give it its flexibility tear. Since they are linked to an inflammatory reaction, they initially appear red or purple; however, after some time, they lighten and become paler than the surrounding skin.

What are the different types of stretch marks?

Red/Purple Stretch Marks (Immature)

A recent stretch mark is called 'immature' and appears red or purple. This color results from the stretch mark being in the inflammatory phase. The stretching of the skin damages fibroblasts, and in response, the dermis becomes inflamed.

White Stretch Marks (Mature)

A repair process begins to replace the damaged cells. At this stage, these stretch marks are called mature and become pearly white.
